Murder probe as toddler 'beaten to death' in Wolverhampton

A boy aged just two-and-a-half has been found allegedly beaten to death at his home in Wolverhampton, and his mother and stepfather have been accused of murdering him.

Police were called to Wednesfield High Street by paramedics just before midnight on Sunday, where young Jeremiah Regis was found with head and body injuries.

He was pronounced dead at hospital a short while later. Police remained at the scene today. Neighbours described Jeremiah as a 'lovely, smiley little boy'.

A police community support officer stood guard outside the block.

A post mortem revealed he died from 'peritonitis as a result of blunt force trauma to his abdomen'.

Last night, his mother, Sindyann Regis, 25, of Wednesfield High Street, and 27-year-old stepfather Chevaze Mcgregor, of Annabelle Court, Rainham, Essex, were charged with murder.

They appeared before Walsall Magistrates Court today, and will appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court tomorrow.

They were remanded in custody and the pair have not yet been asked to enter any pleas.
