The high-powered Audi S3 was spotted by officers on the A449 at Penkridge, and police followed it on a tip that the occupants were involved in drug dealing around the region.

They followed the car down the M6 towards Walsall, and tried to pull it over when it sped up to 120mph as it weaved between lanes.

Video footage released by Staffordshire Police today shows the moment the occupants threw heroin out of the window at 100mph, creating a cloud of brown dust.

The car then stopped and the occupants were arrested, before police shut the M6 south and recovered 34.2 grams of heroin, with a purity of 58%.

It happened at around 2.40am on July 18, between Junctions 9 and 7.

Staffordshire Police said: "Not only did the driving of the Audi put other road users at risk, it caused maximum disruption to road users, who had suffered hours of delay after enduring a 24 hour motorway closure at Junction 13, following a large lorry fire.

"All road traffic was held for a further 30 minutes whilst the motorway was closed to locate the ejected material thrown by the offenders from the Audi."

Kasar Jehangir, 24 of Birmingham, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and received 36 months at Birmingham Crown Court today.

He also admitted dangerous driving and was jailed for 11 months at an earlier hearing, to be served concurrently with the other sentence.

Adil Aftab , 22 of Birmingham, pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and received 36 months.

A 22 year old man, a rear passenger in the vehicle, and who was originally arrested at the scene was cleared of charges.

Police are now trying to seize the Audi under proceeds of crime legislation.

Pc Anthony McKenzie of the Central Motorway Police Group said: "This was a significant and time consuming operation that working with our colleagues in Staffordshire Police, we were able to bring to a successful conclusion today.

"Drug dealing wherever it happens, will not be tolerated and the professionalism of our highly trained pursuit officers enabled us to safely disrupt a significant supply chain into Staffordshire.

"Those convicted today put many lives at risk with their dangerous high speed driving, showing their total disregard for other road users".

Supt Elliot Sharrard-Williams of Staffordshire Police said: "We will not tolerate drug dealing in Staffordshire.

"Our colleagues at CMPG pursued the vehicle and not only safely brought the occupants into custody, but enabled a significant amount of heroin to be recovered.

"These sentences should yet again send a strong message to anyone who thinks it is acceptable to peddle drugs within our county."
