Crooks targeted a 79-year-old woman at her Bilston home claiming they had been sent to carry out building work.

The victim invited two men inside and later discovered that two handbags had been swiped from a sofa. Hundreds of pounds were stolen.

Police have now named 20-year-old Johnny Connors and 22-year-old Phillip Purcell as people they would like to speak to over the burglary.

Both of are of no fixed address and have links to the travelling community.

Purcell is believed to have had his hair closely cropped since the distraction burglary at around 5.30pm on August 25.

Detective Constable Paul Jones from Wolverhampton Police CID's Investigation Team, said: "Connors and Purcell have been identified as suspects. We believe they've conned a vulnerable pensioner.

"They do not deserve any protection and I would urge anyone who has information on their whereabouts to get in touch.

"Distraction offences of this type are truly appalling: an elderly lady, one who struggles to get around, has been deliberately targeted and we're determined to get justice for her."

Anyone with information is asked to call DC Jones on 101 quoting crime number WV/165650A/16 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
