Ex-Coronation Street actor Johnny Briggs' daughter and granddaughter behind bars

The daughter and granddaughter of Stourbridge-based Coronation Street legend Johnny Briggs have been jailed after years of drug abuse.

Mr Briggs, who starred as factory boss Mike Baldwin for 30 years in the long-running ITV soap, has been dealt the blow after the pair were sent to prison for several thefts.

The 81-year-old's daughter and granddaughter have battled drug addiction for many years, and he has previously disowned them.

Karen Briggs, aged 51, and Emma Beach, 28, were found guilty at Guildford Crown Court of stealing bikes from a train station in Surrey. The pair had been stealing to fund their addictions to heroin.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "Briggs was charged with four breaches of a criminal behaviour order and one count of a pedal cycle theft at Cobham rail station on June 21.

"She was sentenced to nine months imprisonment.

"Beach was charged with four counts of breaching a criminal behaviour order, thefts of a pedal cycle at Cobham rail station on June 21 and July 18.

"She also stole a bike from Oxshott rail station on July 18. She was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment."

Both appeared before the court on the September 22 where they pleaded guilty to all offences and were sentenced.
