Tanveer Iqbal murder: Teenage defendant sentenced for perverting the course of justice

A teenager was today sentenced for perverting the course of justice linked to the murder of Smethwick music producer Tanveer Iqbal.

The 17-year-old girl, who cannot be named due to legal reasons, appeared before Birmingham Crown Court.

She was sentenced to a youth rehabilitation order including a three-year supervision requirement.

The body of Tanveer Iqbal, who ran Smethwick store Hi-Tech Music, was found on February 1 this year in a cardboard box inside the boot of his own Renault Clio, which had been abandoned on Portland Road in Edgbaston.

He had been strangled, and his former lover 37-year-old Zatoon Bibi of Bridgeburn Road, Bartley Green, and her ex-husband 44-year-old Gul Nawaz of Roway Lane, Oldbury were found guilty of his murder, along with their 16-year-old son Kashim Nawaz earlier this week.

Bibi and Gul Nawaz will both serve life sentences for murder. Bibi will serve a minimum of 27 years, while Gul Nawaz will serve at least 25 years.

Kashim Nawaz will be detained for a minimum of six years.

Bibi had been in a long-term relationship with Mr Iqbal, and had two children by him.
