Noor Jahan's limb was shattered when she was thrown to the floor by a man during the attack outside Saltwells Education Centre on Bowling Green Road, Netherton, last Sunday.

The thief then kicked the 69-year-old before snatching her handbag with £100 cash and bank cards inside and jumping into a dark blue car.

Her bank card was later used at cashpoints to withdraw amounts totalling £300.

The widow was left needing surgery to insert a metal rod and plates into her injured right arm.

Mrs Jahan said: "I had been to Aldi and was on my way home. I was crossing to the other side of the road, and then somebody behind me held my neck and kicked me.

"Evil does that. I want to see his face again, and ask him why he did that to me."

A man and woman in a vehicle behind the getaway car rang 999 and Mrs Jahan's family, and stayed with the pensioner until police and an ambulance arrived to take her to Russells Hall Hospital.

She also suffered a bruise to her right knee, bruising to her right side, and still has pain from where she was grabbed around the neck.

"Now I feel terrible pain," added Mrs Jahan. "They said my arm will never be 100 per cent right."

Mrs Jahan, who is now scared to walk alone, thanked the couple who came to her aid, adding: "They saved my life."

Her son Mohammed Islan, aged 35, said: "It's disgraceful. To be honest I don't like to talk or think about it. When you have a young lad and an old lady, all he had to do was shout at her and she would have handed the handbag over.

"There was never going to be any degree of fight, so it's the cowardice of it."

Mrs Jahan, who is a retired shopkeeper, caught a glimpse of the man who assaulted her and said that he was around 20 to 22, tall and with a long face.

West Midlands Police spokesman Lee Page said: "The incident happened between 10.40am and 10.55am on Sunday. The victim was crossing the road in Bowling Green Road when a dark blue car pulled up next to her.

"A man pushed her over and grabbed her handbag. There was a bit of a struggle and the man ended up getting back in the car and has driven off towards Saltwell Road. Our investigation is ongoing."
