Police were called to a house in Barlow Road at 2.30am on Friday. West Midlands Police said the attack was being treated as a 'domestic incident'.

The road, which is close to the Gallagher Retail Park, was cordoned off as police forensic teams combed the area. A tent was also put up in the garden of the property.

Matt Chapman, aged 25, who lives two doors down from where the incident happened, said: "I woke up at 4.45am and heard voices outside. I looked outside and saw police tape and a forensic van. I went downstairs to see what was happening. An officer said there had been an incident but he couldn't give any more details than that."

Mr Chapman said the people who live at the house had not been there for long.

He said: "They moved in recently but I don't know who they are. It's a privately rented property, it had been vacant for a while. It's not great to wake up and see that, I was leaving for work early. I wasn't able to get the car out so had to get a taxi. It's generally a quiet, nice street."

Police spokesman Lee Page said: "Police were called to an address in Barlow Road, Wednesbury, following a report that two men had been stabbed at around 2.30am.

"Two men with stab wounds were taken to hospital where their condition is described as serious but stable. This is being treated as a domestic incident and not a random attack."

Shocked neighbours gathered in the street as police descended on the residential street yesterday morning. Mr Chapman said: "I spoke to a neighbour while I was waiting for a taxi. They had woken up at about 2.30am when she saw all the police vans outside."

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Jamie Arrowsmith said: "We can confirm we received two calls to Wednesbury of two patients who had suffered stabbing injuries in close proximity in the early hours of Friday.

"The first call came in at 2.43am to Barlow Road. An ambulance and a paramedic area support officer attended. A man in his 20s was treated for injuries to his head, face and ankle, given pain relief and transported to hospital.

"A second call came in at 2.46am to The Avenue. An ambulance and a paramedic area support officer attended. A man in his 40s was treated for injuries to his chest and face, given pain relief and taken to hospital."
