The words of Hagley Golf and Country Club's managing director, Peter Johnson, as the popular estate is put on the market, with offers invited in the region of £2.25 million.

The club, near Stourbridge, has been put up for sale by the Garratt family following the death of the club's principal shareholder Michael Garratt.

Their facilities include an 18-hole – par 72 – golf course, a 28-bay floodlit golf driving range, an all-weather short game area, golf academy and professional's shop.

The mature course has played host to a number of high-profile competitions, including the Senior Midlands County Regional Qualifier in 2015, the County Brandhall Golf Vase in 2016 and is the proposed venue for the Worcestershire County Championship in 2017.

There is also a two-storey clubhouse which includes four conference and function rooms, four bars, staff accommodation and a business centre with seven let office suites.

Mr Johnson, who took over the running of the club in 2000, added: "My family has owned the club since its inception in 1980 and the land on which it sits for more than 150 years. The family is very proud of its long association with the club and its members.

"I moved across from Australia to take over the club from my uncle. Since then it has gone from strength to strength.

"Some of our highlights include the business centre which opened in 2014, the refurbished locker rooms in 2015 and the main championships that we held host, too - which have been prestigious.

"Sadly, since the death of Michael, it has changed the family dynamic so we think its the best time to test the market.

"For 36 years the family have owned the club and a lot of what we have done has been with the committee, and we would like it to remain as a golf venue rather than anything else."

The club currently has more than 500 members.

It is set in 170 acres with picturesque views overlooking the Clent Hills.

It offers golf, driving range, corporate and social memberships.

The 6,376 yard 18-hole golf course is one of the most challenging in the area.

Real estate company Bilfinger GVA has been appointed to find a buyer.

Ben Allen, who is handling the sale, said: "Hagley Golf and Country Club is a fantastic facility, one that has had the benefit of circa £600,000 capital investment in recent years.

"The whole property is presented to the highest of standards. The club has the air of a true members club, yet generates a strong operating profit, with turnover approaching £1.1m and has potential for further commercialisation.

Calibre

"With 571 golf members, over 7,000 golf range members and a strong social membership, Hagley Golf and Country Club is exceedingly popular and one of very few clubs of this calibre that has come to the market."

The spacious clubhouse is open to the public 365 days a year and shows Sky Sports matches. Both bars have their own hot food and dinners can be served in The Hawthorn Suite which overlooks the course.

Many of their facilities are described as the most advanced in the region.
