'Dangerous' Majid Hussain had the Class A drug in his carry-on bag as he tried to board a flight to Pakistan in February.

A member of security staff found the drug during a routine check, which triggered a search of the 41-year-old's home on Nansen Road, Saltley, Birmingham.

In a suitcase under the bed, police found:

  • A kilo of the drug, with a street value of around £18,000

  • An air gun and £300,000 in cash.

  • A semi-automatic handgun

  • 27 rounds of ammo

  • A stun gun disguised as a phone

Hussain admitted possession of a prohibited firearm; possession of a disguised firearm; possession of ammunition; possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply; and possession of criminal property on the first day of his trial at Birmingham Crown Court this week. He was given 12 years by Judge Pagtrick Thomas QC, who police said described his access to guns and drugs as toxic.

Dc Andrew Mitcham, from Force CID, said: "Thanks to the diligence of the staff at Birmingham Airport we have been able to expose and convict one of Birmingham's high-level drug dealers.

"The evidence we uncovered during the search at Majid Hussain's home in Saltley clearly demonstrates that he was involved in supplying heroin across the city.

"We have taken an illegal firearm, ammunition and other dangerous items off the streets as well as securing a lengthy prison sentence against a very dangerous man."
