Jewellery robbery suspects arrested after high-speed Stafford chase appear in court

Four suspected robbers arrested after a 30-mile, high-speed pursuit was brought to an end by armed police officers near Stafford have been remanded in custody.

The pursuit on Wednesday is thought to have started after an alleged raid on a jewellers in Nantwich, Cheshire and finished near the Catch Corner roundabout, close to Junction 13 of the M6.

Officers from the West Midlands Motorway Group, Staffordshire Police, North West Motorway Group and Central Police Motorway Group were all involved in bringing the hunt to an end.

Lewis Chalmers, 26, from Oswald Road in Chorlton-cum-Hardy; Patrick David Massey, 25, Pegwell Drive, Salford; Darren James McAndrew, 32, Edlington Walk, Newton Heath and Joseph Anthony Schofield, 20, from Dob Brook Close in Manchester, all appeared at South and East Cheshire Magistrates' Court in Crewe yesterday.

They were remanded in custody and will next appear at Chester Crown Court on August 26.
