Pc Benjamin Hughes, who is based at the city's Bilston Street station, made the admission before magistrates in Coventry.

At a hearing on June 16 he pleaded guilty to offences of theft by an employee and possession of cannabis.

Next Friday Pc Hughes will appear in front of the special case panel which will be chaired by Chief Constable Dave Thompson.

The hearing will take place at Tally Ho Conference and Banqueting Centre, in Pershore Road, Birmingham, from 10.30am.

Pc Hughes is said to have breached professional standards in relation to honesty and integrity and discreditable conduct, amounting to gross misconduct.

If the panel conclude his conduct does amount to gross misconduct he could face dismissal.

His next appearance before the courts will be on July 15 at Warwick Crown Court when he will be sentenced.

West Midlands Police confirmed Pc Hughes is currently suspended from his post.
