Dean Swift was found guilty at Stafford Crown Court after a five day trial and will be sentenced next month.

The conviction follows an investigation by the Central Motorway Police Group Collision Investigation Unit into a collision on the A5 near Marlborough Way, Tamworth on May, 5 last year when a works van, driven by Swift, was involved in a collision with the pedal cycle being ridden by 58-year-old Mr Paul Maguire.

Mr Maguire suffered fatal injuries having being struck from behind by Swift. Swift, aged 23, attempted to blame windy conditions for the collision but he was found guilty by the jury of driving without due care and attention and causing the death of Mr Maguire.

Forensic collision investigators provided expert evidence at the trial and witness evidence saying that Swift's van did not move prior to him hitting the pedal cycle helped the jury reach their decision.
