The gate into a green space was broken on Sunday afternoon at around 4pm, at the junction of Waddens Brook Lane, Fibbersley, just off Broad Lane South.

Traffic backed up along Waddens Brook Lane as the caravans caused an obstruction to oncoming traffic. Nearby residents immediately contacted the police to inform them of the travellers' arrival, though by the time the police arrived, they had already made an encampment.

A resident who wished not to be named said: "As long as they keep themselves to themselves and move on in a couple of days."

Another resident who wished not to named added: "I'm just worried about the mess they will leave behind."
