Armed police descend on Cannock after 'gunman makes death threat'

Armed police descended on Cannock yesterday after an 18-year-old claimed he was threatened by a gunman.

A 25-year-old man from Burntwood has been arrested on suspicion of threats to kill.

He was located in Hednesford after a search involving Staffordshire Police and the National Police Air Service.

He remains in custody.

A spokesperson from Staffordshire Police said: "We received a report at around 7.05 pm on Monday night from an 18 year-old man from Cannock who had been threatened by a man who claimed to have a gun.

"Both armed and unarmed officers were sent to the area to locate the offender.

"Colleagues in the National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter also assisted in the search.

"A 25 year-old man from Burntwood was located in the Hednesford area and arrested on suspicion of threats to kill and is currently in custody."

It was the second time armed police were sent to Staffordshire on Monday after officers were called to help catch an escaped water buffalo near Stafford.
