Suraj Mistry and 18-year-old Lemar Wali attended Birmingham Magistrates' Court in custody, accused of killing 56-year-old Akhtar Javeed.

Mistry, 26, of Laundon Way in Leicester, and Wali are both also charged with attempted robbery and possession of a handgun.

Appearing in the dock wearing a grey jumper and jeans, and flanked by a security officer, Mistry spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address.

His co-accused, Wali, of Osmaston Park Road in Derby, appeared separately wearing a grey t-shirt, jogging bottoms, black trainers, and with a chinstrap beard.

Both men were charged on Sunday by detectives from West Midlands Police.

Magistrates remanded both men back in custody to appear at the city's crown court on Wednesday.

Chairman of the bench Abdul Aziz said: "You're being sent to the crown court on the day specified. You'll be remanded in custody."

Mr Javeed was killed in what police have described as an attempted robbery on Direct Source 3 Ltd in Rea Street South in the Digbeth area of Birmingham on February 3.

Wali, of Osmaston Park Road, was arrested in Derby on Thursday while Mistry, of Laundon Way, was arrested in Leicester on Friday alongside a 19-year-old woman.

She was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender but has since been released on bail.

Detective Chief Inspector Martin Slevin, who is leading the investigation, said: "I continue to appeal to people to come forward, I firmly believe that someone out there may still have information that could help our investigation and I am urging them to call me or one of my team."

Anyone with information should contact police on 101.
