Akhtar Javeed murder: Teenager arrested after Birmingham soft drinks boss shot dead in attempted robbery

A teenager has been arrested in connection with the murder of Akhtar Javeed.

An 18-year-old man was arrested in Derby last night following the death of the businessman who was shot dead in an attempted robbery last week.

A silver Renault Megane has also been seized and will be forensically examined.

The teenager remains in police custody this morning.

Mr Javeed was shot dead during an attempt robbery at a warehouse in Rea Street South, Digbeth, just before 6.40pm on Wednesday, February 3. An investigation into his murder is ongoing.

Detective Chief Inspector Martin Slevin, who is leading on the investigation, said: "Extensive investigations into the death are ongoing and we are still appealing for anyone who saw a silver Renault Megane in or around that time to get in touch.

"A man has been arrested but our investigation is still in the early stages and we want to hear from anyone who has any information that could help our investigation."

Mr Javeed's family continue to be supported by specialist officers.
