Gemma Talbot, formerly Pc Talbot, was dismissed without notice at a special case hearing.

The hearing was told how Miss Talbot, when signed off on sick leave, stole from an Asda in Chelmsley Wood, Solihull, and from an Ikea in Coventry.

On October 8, 2015 she stole £91.85 worth of groceries from the supermarket in Chelmsley Wood and a cabinet worth £29.90 from the Ikea.

In November she appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty.

She was fined £300.

Despite not attending today's hearing in person, Miss Talbot pleaded through her Police Federation representative with Chief Constable David Thompson to be allowed to keep her job.

But Chief Constable Thompson, who chaired the hearing, said: "This is such serious gross misconduct and the nature of it is such that it does require the serious sanction of dismissal without notice.

"Matters of dishonesty cut to the very heart of the role of a police officer. They profoundly undermine public trust."
