Burglars broke into the house after prising open a kitchen window.

A Browning Super Sport 325 shotgun and 70 shotgun cartridges were taken along with the haul of cash. The jewellery that was stolen is thought to be worth around £8,000.

A mobile phone, iPads and a games console were also taken.

Detective Constable Nick Slym, from West Midlands Police, said: "The gun is missing a forearm, a part beneath the barrel which means it cannot be fired. However, it still has the appearance of a working shotgun.

"Thankfully incidents like this are rare and I would like to reassure the public that we have a dedicated team of officers working on this investigation.

"We are determined to find who is responsible and the stolen firearm that they took and I would urge anyone with any information to contact us."

Anyone with information about the burglary or whereabouts of the gun is asked to contact Det Con Slym at Brierley Hill police station on 101.
