Man arrested after violent street attacks on victims aged 61 and 69 in West Bromwich

A man has been arrested after a pensioner was left with crash-like injuries in an attack in West Bromwich just before a woman aged 61 was punched during a robbery nearby.

The 27-year-old was held a week after CCTV was released showing a key suspect in the attacks boarding a bus.

The first assault happened near to Greets Green social club on Whitehall Road at around 5.15am on November 7.

The victim, a widower aged 69 from Tipton, was found unconscious and was left critically ill for several days after the attack.

The second took place between 6.10am and 6.30am on Great Bridge Street.

The woman, 61, was punched twice on the face and kicked to the ground around an hour later by a man who snatched her handbag just a few hundred metres away.

Witnesses are urged to call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
