A misconduct panel found Inspector Jaswant Singh 'deliberately lied' to his chief inspector when questioned about his actions.

Inspector Singh told colleagues to 'take their time' despite the fact officers needed help as they tried to control two groups at Olivio's in Stourbridge, the hearing was told.

The panel concluded the inspector, who has 24 years of service in the police force, had breached professional standards relating to honesty and integrity and said his actions 'fell short' of those expected of a senior officer.

Assistant chief constable Carl Foulkes, who chaired the panel, said: "The panel is satisfied Inspector Singh deliberately lied in order to cover up his own failings on the night and in doing so impuned the reputation of his colleagues.

"Inspector Singh's reaction fell short of what can be expected of senior officers. Giving the account he did to Chief Inspector Rowe was found as a breach of standards relating to honesty and integrity.

"The panel finds his actions placed both his colleagues and members of the public at risk in circumstances that had the potential to lead to serious injury.

"It is totally unacceptable for a police officer, let alone one of his rank, to lie to a senior officer.

The hearing was told Insp Singh had allegedly gone to Romino's pizza off Stourbridge High Street by mistake at 2.30am on February 23 last year, instead of nearby Olivio, where trouble had flared.

He insisted he had gone to Olivio's, but the hearing was told his claim was 'not credible' because of the actions he took and because no other officer remembered seeing him there.
