Thieves target Dudley Sainsbury's Local before police chase

Thieves tried to smash their way through a supermarket window before fleeing empty handed today.

Sainsbury's Local on Pensnett High Street, Dudley, was left boarded up after raiders smashed glass and removed bricks.

Police chased a Ford Fiesta when officers arrived at 2.45am, but the vehicle managed to speed off.

Mandy Pursey, spokeswoman for Sainsbury's, said: "Nothing was taken and we are very grateful to our neighbours for calling the police."

Lee Page, spokesman for West Midlands Police, said CCTV was being reviewed

"On arrival officers gave chase to a Ford Fiesta ST believed to have been involved in the offence but this was lost a few minutes later following a short pursuit.

Witnesses or anyone with information about the attempted break-in is asked to call police on 101.
