Becky Szenk booked a removal firm named Lee Green, which she found on Facebook for her move.

She wanted her possessions moved from her flat in Mount Pleasant, Bilston to the Horse and Jockey pub in Walsall Wood, which her partner Mark Higgins now runs.

Two workers arrived in a rental van on Friday morning and loaded it up with the entire contents of the flat, including the fridge freezer, the washing machine, furniture and clothing.

They drove off and have not been seen since.

West Midlands Police said today: "We're investigating what happened and are following several lines of enquiry. We would ask anyone with information to contact us on 101.

"We would also remind everyone to be careful when hiring workmen they don't know. Always check credentials and ask for a permanent business address and landline telephone number.

"Look online for reviews of the business and ask for references from previous customers.

"If you have any concerns contact the Trading Standards department at your local council or contact the Citizens Advice consumer helpline on 03454 04 05 06.

"If you've been the victim of fraud you can report it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040."
