Woman dies after Kidderminster apartment fire

The woman injured in a suspected arson attack above flats in Kidderminster has died.

Sandra Nowocinska, aged 22, died with her family at her side in hospital yesterday afternoon.

Her son, aged five, is in a serious but stable condition in Birmingham Children's Hospital afteer the fire, at Horsefair.

A man aged 41 arrested in connection with Thursday's fire has been released on police bail.

Det Insp Leighton Harding said: "Our condolences go out to Sandra's family; our specialist family liaison officers are supporting them at this difficult time.

"A dedicated team of detectives and staff continue to investigate the circumstances around the fire, which is being treated as suspicious. We are treating Sandra's death as manslaughter and we would appeal for anyone with any information that may help the investigation to contact us."

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: "Investigations at the scene have finished and checks are being carried out to ensure the safety of the surrounding buildings."
