Jason Wilson lashed out at the victim with a series of kicks, knees and punches in an "over the top" reaction to being asked if he could stop his partner's children throwing sweets.

Wilson, 35, squirted lemon juice in the man's eyes, temporarily blinding him, before launching the seven-minute attack on the No. 24 bus on Birmingham's busy Broad Street.

Wilson is caught on camera

The thug was named by 'multiple' members of the public after this CCTV footage was released by West Midlands Police.

The force then tried to arrest him at a number of addresses, and he handed himself in to officers on Thursday afternoon.

Today he appeared before Birmingham magistrates, where he was remanded in custody after admitting assault. He is set to appear at the city's crown court on March 7 for sentence.

Pc Antony Watts, who investigated the case, said: "People were understandably disgusted by the footage: the victim was minding his own business when he politely asked Wilson to stop the children throwing sweets at him...but that request prompted a barbaric, prolonged attack.

"At one stage Wilson stood on a seat to get a better kicking angle…the victim was lucky to escape with only a broken nose as it could have been much worse. And what makes it even more shocking is that he unleashed the attack in front of the children he was travelling with."

"The response from the public to our appeal was fantastic with many people offering new information and several providing Wilson's name and address…it was only a matter of time before we caught up with him."

The 21-year-old victim, from Birmingham's Woodgate area, was travelling on the bus in Broad Street at around 5.45pm on January 11 when he was attacked.

He was left with facial cuts and bruises in addition to a broken nose.

Wilson, of Dudnill Grove in Bartley Green, made a full and frank admission in interview, saying it was an over the top reaction.

He said that he sprayed the victim with lemon juice and not pepper spray.

A 32-year-old Quinton woman travelling on the bus with Wilson was arrested the day after police released the camera footage, and remains on police bail whilst officers probe whether she was involved.
