Woman admits Oldbury and Birmingham poppy box thefts

A 22-year-old woman who was one of three callous thieves who stole poppy collection boxes from hotels has admitted stealing the boxes.

Amy Sanders, of Thornfield Road, Acocks Green, Birmingham, admitted stealing the boxes from Holiday Inn in Oldbury and Britannia Hotel in Birmingham city centre on November 6 last year.

Sanders pleaded guilty to the charges in Wolverhampton Crown Court yesterday after originally pleading not guilty last year in front of magistrates. She was bailed to an address in Nottingham, and was also ordered not to enter the two hotels.

The case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report and she is due to appear at the court for sentencing on March 12.

In November last year, Adam Tookey, aged 22, and his older brother Karl, 25, also of Thornfield Road, were each given 12 month prison sentences for their role in the theft. part in stealing the collection boxes.

The brothers were spotted entering the Holiday Inn in Oldbury at 12.30pm on November 6 before they snatched the charity box from the front desk and fled.

Police had put out appeals to catch the thieves through social media, which helped an eagle-eyed reader of the Express & Star spot the trio.
