Pensioner attacked in Dudley handbag theft

An elderly woman was attacked as two men robbed her handbag while she walked down a quiet side street.

The two men approached the 78-year-old in broad daylight and shoved her to the ground in Greystone Street, in Dudley, near the Asda supermarket.

Detectives say the pair then grabbed her handbag and ran off towards Pitfield Street.

The woman suffered swelling and pain to her face, knee and shoulder following the attack.

An appeal has been launched to find the men following the attack at 11am on December 15.

The first man is described as white, aged between 19 and 20, around 5ft 9ins tall and of slim build.

He was wearing black clothing and a hood over his head.

The other man was also white and of a similar age, height and build.

He was wearing a black woolly hat and a black and white jacket.

Detective Constable Nick Slym, from Dudley CID, said: “This was a completely unacceptable attack against an elderly woman who was minding her own business.

“It happened in broad daylight and I’m sure there would have been other people in the area at the time that may have seen the pair responsible.”

Anyone with information are asked to call Dudley CID on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
