Detectives have now released crystal clear images of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the assault which took place at the O Bar in Broad Street in Birmingham.

The 39-year-old was selling roses inside the club when a man grabbed a handful of rose stems and tried to damage them.

The rose seller - who has been working in the city centre for more than a decade - protested and the man then punched and throttled him and his jacket pocket was searched in what is believed to have been an attempt to steal money.

Det Con Jamie Simon, from Birmingham CID, said: "With the support of the club we have been able to issue two images of a man we would like to speak to.

"The rose seller is a familiar face in the city and is very well known and I am appealing to anyone who recognises this man to call me with his details.

"I would also like to take this opportunity to appeal to the man in the photo to do the right thing and come forward."

The attack happened in the early hours of October 30.

Anyone with information is urged to call DC Jamie Simon or one of his team on 101.
