Paminder Singh was caught out after police were called to Morrisons in Middle Piece Way in Willenhall on December 7.

It came following reports that a black Adidas bag had been found in the canteen that contained substances.

Mr Richard Davenport, prosecuting, told Wolverhampton Crown Court yesterday that inside the bag was £1,840 worth of cocaine and £50 of cannabis.

There were also a set of scales.

When police arrived at the supermarket they were alerted that Singh was still in the store and was found shopping in one of the aisles.

Officers questioned him but he claimed he had found the bag and was going to hand it in.

Singh denied possessing the controlled drugs with intent to supply but he was convicted by jury after a trial.

Judge Mark Eades told Singh: "You went into this supermarket with your stock in trade. I will deal with you as a street dealer."

Miss Sarah Hurd, defending Singh, told the court Singh had been motivated by financial gain and that he had played a significant role in the supply of drugs.

She added that he had been dealing to fund his own drug addiction but said he had been taking steps to rid himself of the habit.
