The 26-year-old doorman was outside Gatecrasher in Broad Street when a scuffle broke out between a man who had been inside the club and one of his colleagues.

As he moved in to assist his fellow bouncer he was hit in the head with what police believe was a small hammer.

He suffered injuries to his face and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Detectives have now released CCTV images of a man they wish to speak to, to help their investigation into the assault that happened just after midnight on Friday September 13.

Detective Constable Matt Lynch, from Force CID, said: "The bouncer suffered several nasty cuts to his face which had to be glued at hospital - he was fortunate that none of the injuries had had a lasting effect.

"We want to identify the man in the images as soon as possible and speak to him about what happened.

"If you recognise him, or were at the club that night and saw something, please come forward and call us."

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
