Jamie Careless struck at premises in Wolverhampton's Dudley Street, also taking goods including a CCTV system and radio-controlled helicopters.

The 31-year-old from Leasowes Drive, Warstones, in the city, began his campaign of shoplifting two days after he was given a suspended sentence. Wolverhampton Magistrates Court heard yesterday that he stole make-up valued at £100 from Boots on October 25 and returned two days later and made off with £150 worth of cosmetics.

Mrs Maggie Meakin, prosecuting, told the court: "On November 2 the defendant went behind the counter and took a basket containing £300 worth of make-up.

"In five of the offences the goods were not recovered and the estimated value of items stolen was £1,019." The court was told that as well as make-up Careless stole a smart trike from

Mothercare, a £336 CCTV system from Maplin Electronics and four remote-control helicopters valued at £59.96 between October 25 and last Monday.

Mrs Debbie Starrs, defending, said: "I invite the bench to give Mr Careless maximum credit as he was completely co-operative with the police. He refused the opportunity to see CCTV showing him carrying out the offences and made full and frank admissions during the police interviews."

Careless pleaded guilty to six charges of theft from a shop and a single charge of burglary with intent to steal.

He also pleaded guilty to breaching conditions of a suspended sentence.

Magistrates jailed him for a total of 13 months at yesterday's hearing.

Careless thanked the bench sitting at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court as he was sent down to the cells.
