More dawn raids as police warn Wolverhampton drug gangs 'we are coming to get you'

[gallery] The biggest ever police crackdown on drugs and gangs in Wolverhampton continued today as around 200 officers launched a second day of raids.

Eleven homes around the north east of the city were targeted as part of operation Wolverhampton No Deal, resulting in 10 men and a woman people being arrested.

This morning police swooped on addresses in Park Village, Willenhall, Ashmore Park, Low Hill, Bushbury and Wednesfield.

It came just 48 hours after a first wave of swoops led to a more than a dozen arrests.

Before launching the raids officers carried out 15 months of investigations, including surveillance, prompted by a string of shootings in the city last summer.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Drover, who is leading the operation, said: "This operation has been planned over the last 15 months and we are now at the point of arresting people.

"We have seen 24 arrests so far.

"Our aim is to rid the areas of street level drug dealing by not only targeting key individuals, but reducing the demand for drugs by providing treatment to users."

Today's swoops started when around 10 police vans arrived at a rendezvous point in the city before heading off on separate raids.

They were joined by arrest teams of officers in unmarked cars.

At around 6.30am, police arrived at Kipling Road in Low Hill where they used a hydraulic jack to remove the door from a semi-detached house.

Shortly after a suspect was led from the address in handcuffs while the officers searched the premises.

At around the same time, the front door of a semi-detached house on First Avenue in Low Hill was smashed open by police with a battering ram.

The target police were searching for was not present and no arrests were made.

Yesterday, nine people appeared in Birmingham Magistrates Court after being charged with a range of drug related offences following Tuesday's raids.

Seven were remanded in custody and are due to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on November 14.

A further two were bailed by magistrates but will appear at the same court on the same date.

In addition, Adam Walker, 26, from Hampton View, Heath Town, was charged with conspiracy to supply heroin and crack cocaine.

He will appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court on October 2.

  • Ellerton Walk, Park Village - Men, 32 and 34, arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs.

  • Aston Road, Willenhall

  • Kipling Road, Poets Corner - Two men, 18 and 17, arrested for obstructing police. Man, 23, arrested on suspicion of being concerned in supply of Class A drugs

  • Croft Lane, Wolverhampton

  • Snape Rd, Ashmore Park - Man, 21, arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs.

  • Westcroft Avenue, Bushbury - Man, 21, arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs.

  • Fourth Avenue, Low Hill

  • Mills Close, Wednesfield - Man, 31, arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs.

  • First Avenue, Low Hill - Man, 59, fined for possession of cannabis and woman, 23, cautioned after arrest.

  • Bewley Road, Willenhall

  • One man, 28, handed himself in to police in Stechford, Birmingham, and a 19-year-old serving prisoner was also arrested
