These images show two men wanted by police after a man was kicked in the head and fell onto the railway tracks in a ‘nasty’ attack.
The 48-year-old victim from Walsall needed hospital treatment for serious injuries to his face, head and ribs.
Police believe the attackers were Aston Villa fans returning home after the club’s home fixture earlier in the day.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Simon Taylor, said: “Shortly after 8.30pm the victim, who was on the Walsall-bound platform at Aston station, became involved in some banter with two men on the Birmingham-bound platform.
It’s believed that all three men were Aston Villa fans who were returning home after the club’s home fixture earlier in the day.
“For reasons unknown at this time, the banter escalated which resulted in the two men launching a violent assault on the victim, kicking him in the head and raining a number of blows to his body, causing him to fall from the platform onto the railway tracks.
“This was a particularly nasty and violent attack which caused the victim to be hospitalised. It’s only a matter of luck that a train wasn’t coming into the station before he was helped from the tracks.
“Inquiries are ongoing to trace those responsible, including viewing CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses.
“Today, I am releasing CCTV images which show two men I would like to identify and speak to as I believe they will have key information which can assist the investigation.
“If you know the men in these photographs, or their current whereabouts, please call British Transport Police.”
