The bar at Sadler's Distillery, in Lye, Dudley, will open to the public in May.

The owners of the distillery, Halewood Artisanal Spirits, have invested £1million into reopening the site in Station Drive.

It is operating on the former site of Sadler's Brewery, which closed down last year ahead of plans to reopen the distillery.

The distillery makes a Peaky Blinders-inspired gin, and the owners have revealed they are set to roll out a Black Country whisky too.

Ashley Lloyd, retail operations manager at the distillery, said; "We’re really pleased to confirm that production at our new Sadler’s Distillery is now fully underway and going very well.

"Our first Black Country-made Peaky Blinder Gin is already rolling out into the market, and preparations are being made to produce our first Black Country whisky."

Honour

The distillery was visited on Tuesday by West Midlands Mayor Andy Street and Stourbridge MP Suzanne Webb.

Mr Lloyd added: "It was a real honour to show Andy Street and Suzanne Webb MP round the site this week to show them what we’ve been up to, take them through the distillation process and also have them sign our first whisky barrel."

The closure of Sadler's Brewery was confirmed in January last year while Halewood Artisanal Spirits, which owns the Sadler's business, made plans to open a distillery there instead.

The distillery, which is the first of its kind in the local area, has become the main production site for Sadler’s award-winning Peaky Blinder spirit range.

This includes Peaky Blinder Spiced Dry Gin and Black Spiced Rum – each one of which is named after an infamous character from the Peaky Blinder gang which lived in the area in the 1890s.
