Tourist destinations like Dudley Zoo are among those to be flying the red, white and black emblem with pride.

Pubs and shops are also flying the flags while residents have also been buying them in their hundreds to display outside their homes.

Shops selling the Black Country flag have sold out ahead of a festival running all weekend as a prelude to July 14.

Hundreds of the 5ft x 3ft flags have gone of the shelves at the Black Country Living Museum and Black Country TeeT-Shirt Shop in Cradley Heath this week.

Paul Palmer, owner of Black Country T-Shirt Shop, said he was even unsure when he would get some more in due to the demand on the distributor.

"In under two days we have sold 75 flags and are now out. In total we have sold about 300 of them.

"It shows everyone's proud to be where they are from and want to get involved in the event this weekend."

He added: "There's been more interest in the Black Country flag than the England flag before the World Cup."

Mr Palmer said he had also sold Black Country car stickers, smaller flags and T-shirts this week. In total, he said he has sold about 1,000 items leading up to this weekend.

Last night the Black Country Living Museum had also sold out of the flags, which are priced at £4.99.
