'Stourbridge till I die': Fans defiant despite Glassboys play-off final defeat

Stourbridge missed out on promotion as they suffered a heartbreaking play-off final defeat.

Spennymoor Town ran out 1-0 winners as the Glassboys paid for a disappointing first half.

Stour put in a spirited display in the second period but couldn't find an equaliser.

It means Stourbridge stay in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League and miss out on a place in the National League North.

The result marks a disappointing end to a remarkable season which also saw the Glassboys reach the third round of the FA Cup.

Spennymoor took a deserved first half lead just after the half hour mark as Robert Ramshaw hit a smart shot into the top corner.

Stour players claimed handball against the scorer in the build up to the goal but their protestations were waved away.

The Glassboys came to life at the start of the second half and striker Luke Benbow almost pulled them level with a spectacular overhead effort which flew agonisingly wide after the Spennymoor keeper had rushed out to save with his shoulder.

Stour had more pressure in the dying moments and were denied by two top saves in injury time, first from a Benbow free kick and seconds later from Kennedy Digie in front of goal.

The Glassboys just couldn't force the equaliser and it is Spennymoor who will take their place in the National League North next season.
