Walsall Council's cabinet passed the move on Wednesday which will secure £250,000 investment from the Murray Hall Community Trust (MHCT) which will take on the building in a 25-year agreement.

Initially the authority had three expressions of interest for the town hall.

Gazebo withdrew its offer, while officers opted for MHCT ahead of Darlaston All Active stating it was the 'best fit' for the property.

The trust is a Sandwell-based charity set up in 1994 to promote health and wellbeing in the Black Country.

They have proposed to develop a community hub at the hall which will provide services to enhance personal development, healthy lifestyles, wellbeing, community engagement, empowerment and social inclusion.

Councillor Doug James, who represents Darlaston, has previously welcomed the idea saying: "It is a step forward for the town and I am pleased that the group have spoken with residents and community groups already to gauge opinion."
