Stafford Soccer Mums get a kick from new kit - WATCH

A group of soccer mums have gone from cheering on the touchlines to playing competitive football for the first time in their lives.

The majority of the women in the aptly-named Stafford Soccer Mums team have never played before, and only became interested in the sport by watching their children play.

Despite losing their first three matches, conceding 30 goals and not scoring any in return, the team has attracted a sponsor in Stafford nightclub Casa.

The club has bought the team its first kit as it competes in a 'Women's Over-30s' seven-a-side league – the brainchild of the Staffordshire FA, which thought there was a gap in the market for mothers playing the game.

Will Conaghan, who is currently coaching the side, said: "The enthusiasm is amazing, nobody misses training and they even set up their own additional fitness group with dads and kids joining in."

Captain Debs Kelly added: "It is a real bonus that Casa very generously agreed to buy us our first strip.

"Quite apt really as many of the team are already patrons of the club – just not before a match of course!"
