James Gallagher, who suffers from cystic fibrosis and liver failure, was whisked off to the This Morning Studios in the capital in a Rolls Royce Phantom alongside his mother and sister from Bilston.

The 17-year-old has been given months to live but now the paediatric team from New Cross Hospital are helping James fulfil his bucket list which included the chance to meet the Italian chef at the This Morning studios in London.

The family arrived just after 9.30am to watch Gino in action on ITV's This Morning.

Gino is best known for his food-based television shows and his appearance on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

Mother Carol Gallagher, from Bilston, said: "James absolutely loves Gino so the hospital worked hard to try and organise for it to happen.

"The hospital got in touch with us to say that they'd managed to organise for it to happen.

"James met Gino just before the show started and he wished him well and said he was sorry about everything that's happening to him.

"He said it was a pleasure and he was very lucky to be able to meet James.

"We then watched him do his cooking live on the show whilst sitting backstage. James loved every minute of the experience and was so happy to finally meet Gino because he's loved him for years."

The 37-year-old mother sat backstage with James and her 13-year-old daughter, Jessica, at the studios where Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby host one of ITV's biggest programmes.

Carol added: "The hospital told us they weren't able to do anything more for James because of his liver failure and that's why the bucket list was started.

"I don't like the idea that he has to have a bucket list because of his illness but it's so lovely that so many nice people are willing to help him during this difficult time.

"I thought he'd fall asleep on the way there in the car but he was clearly too busy having fun in it. He's loved every minute.

"He was talking about what happened and what Gino said all the way home.

"He hasn't been able to get out much because he's spent most of his life in hospital so now he wants to spend more of it having a bit of fun.

"The hospital has organised to go to Liverpool in May which is one of his bucket list items too which is exciting."

James' bucket list includes driving an army tank, going on a cruise and watching the Barcelona football team play.

The trip to met Gino, including the journey in the Rolls Royce, was organised by staff at the hospital.
