Paul Footman, of Terrace Street in Brierley Hill, was being treated at Russells Hall Hospital on November 2, 2016 when he suffered the reaction.

The 54-year-old was rushed to the hospital for an urgent operation to his arm but suffered a cardiac arrest during the procedure because he had gone into anaphylactic shock.

The severity of Mr Footman's allergic reaction was shown by the fact his blood contained 100 times more than the normal level of the enzyme tryptase, which is released when people suffer allergic reactions.

Black Country coroner Zafar Siddique, referring to a medical report, said: "He developed a cardiac arrest. He passed away in the operating theatre."

Mr Siddique passed a verdict of accidental death because of the 'reaction to the anaesthetic' and said Mr Footman had suffered a 'massive allergic reaction'.
