She was treated for chest pains after her silver car crashed on the junction of Lower High Street and Foxoak Street in Cradley Heath.

Fire crews from Haden Cross were the first emergency services on the scene and found the woman in discomfort in the BMW after they were dispatched at around 7.30pm.

She had got out of the badly-damaged car after the incident but was advised by a passer-by to sit back inside and wait for emergency services.

Firefighter Kevin Atkins from Haden Cross Fire Station, on Halesowen Road, said: "The female driver was taken to Russells Hall hospital because of pain in her chest, possibly caused by the seatbelt.

"We sent both the main fire engine and our 4x4."

The road was closed while workers from the Highways Agency fixed the traffic light.
