Emergency repair works are currently in place at Castle Hill after a pipe burst between the junction of Trindle Road and Castle Gate Island at around 8pm last night.

A Dudley Council road surfacing contractor caused the damage, according to South Staffordshire Water, which led to another main bursting on nearby Hill Crest Road at around 7am this morning.

Two primary schools were shut throughout Friday as a result.

A total of around 25 properties have been affected, including closed St Joseph's Catholic Primary School and Beechwood CE Primary School, which are situated opposite each other on Hill Crest Road.

Meanwhile one lane has been closed in both directions on Castle Hill from Castle Gate Island while South Staffordshire Water carries out repairs.

The water company was expected to remain at the scene throughout the weekend, but the Castle Hill main has now been repaired and the traffic management measures are due to be removed tomorrow, according to Dudley Council.

Councillor Hilary Bills, cabinet member for environmental services, said: "South Staffordshire Water is undertaking emergency works on Castle Hill due to a burst water main that has affected around 25 properties.

"Lane closures are expected to be in operation on Castle Hill in both directions until Monday and we would like to thank people for their patience while these important works are undertaken."
