Sean Williams was hit by a Nissan Juke after he ran across two lanes of traffic at a set of lights.

He was hit at the junction of March End Road and Lakefield Road on December 29.

The court heard that the lights were on green at the time of the accident, police said.

Sean, aged 13, from Bushbury Lane, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital where he died later that night.

The cause of death given was traumatic head injuries.

Russell Williams, senior coroners officer, said: "At 2pm on December 29 a Nissan Juke was on Lakefield Road at a set of traffic lights.

"It was in the first of three lanes.

"He sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital where he died just after 7pm."

Pc Kate Hall, from West Midlands Police Collision Investigation Unit, said: "We have identified all witnesses and are in the process of analysing CCTV and dash cam footage from the offending vehicle.

"The driver gave a full statement to police following the incident.

"We are now awaiting a collision report and the likely referral to the CPS."

The inquest was adjourned for further investigations to take place until March 15.
