Man charged over flare thrown at Stourbridge FA Cup clash

A man has been charged by police with throwing a missile onto the pitch during Stourbridge Football Club's FA Cup game against Wycombe Wanderers.

Daniel David Ingram was arrested at the game on Saturday at Wycombe's Adams Park.

The 28-year-old, of Birmingham Road, Kidderminster, has since been bailed by Thames Valley Police to appear at High Wycombe Magistrates Court on January 30.

It comes as the Football Association has confirmed it is reviewing the match, which had to be stopped around the half-hour mark when a flare was thrown onto pitch.

The object, which was caught on camera by photographers, started spewing smoke after being thrown from the stands during the third round tie.

The Glassboys were already facing an FA charge after a flare was thrown onto the pitch in their previous FA Cup match against Northampton Town - which prompted a plea from chairman Andy Pountney not to repeat the offence.

A spokesman for the FA said they will be contacting the clubs involved.

"I can confirm the FA are aware of what happened. The referee reported it after the game," the spokesman said.

Mr Pountney wrote on the club's website two days before the match: "As supporters will know, we have recently been charged by the FA following an incident involving a flare during the cup tie against Northampton Town.

"Any repeat of this incident will almost certainly have significant implications for the club, financial or otherwise.

"Such incidents also involve club officials in time, effort and administration that would be much more productively spent on other matters."

Wycombe, who are three divisions above Stourbridge, went on to beat The Glassboys 2-1, ending their dream FA Cup run.

Mr Pountney had described the game as the biggest in the club's history. It was the first time Stourbridge reached the third round of the competition in their 141 year history.

Jack Duggan got the winning goal against League One side Northampton in the previous round to mark a historic victory for the non-league club.

But the Glassboys suffered late heartbreak against Wycombe as striker Adebayo Akinfenwa netted an 83rd minute winner.
