The smash left three people from the Black Country injured and led to a busy stretch of Eastern Way being shut for four hours - just one day after nearby Hawks Green Lane was closed when a car ploughed into a building.

Today's incident happened shortly before 5.30am and saw a red Vauxhall Zafira crash into the roundabout which links the A460 Eastern Way and Hayes Way, next to Mill Green Nature Reserve.

A 55-year-old man from Wednesfield was trapped for 50 minutes and had to be released by firefighters using hydraulic cutting equipment.

He suffered leg and arm pain but was immobilised, given pain relief and taken to New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton.

A 19-year-old male passenger from Bilston was also taken to hospital after sustaining lower back pain, while a 30-year-old man, from Willenhall, who had been a rear-seat passenger was treated for shoulder pain and discharged at the scene.

The crash led to an oil spillage and caused damage to Eastern Way, which was closed between the Lichfield Road 'Tip' roundabout and the McDonald's roundabout for around four hours while repairs took place.

As a result, drivers were left facing major delays for the second day in a row after a smash on at The Green on Hawks Green Lane caused concerns of a gas leak.

The inside of the damaged building after the crash on Sunday evening

Residents had to be evacuated to a nearby fast food restaurant after a silver Ford Mondeo smashed into a building at around 10.20pm on Sunday evening.

Hawks Green Lane was closed until around 10am yesterday, and police are now searching for two male suspects who are believed to have left the car stuck in the building.

Anyone who witnessed either incident or has information about the crashes should contact Staffordshire Police on 101.
