The terraced house in Elm Road, on Dudley's Priory estate, has been put on the market with the rather modest price tag of £120,000.

It is cheap enough for a footballer of Edwards' skill and fame today to snap up with a week's pay packet.

The property features three bedrooms and a stylish, modern-looking kitchen.

There is wooden decking in the garden and a bench, providing plenty of room for seating.

It was while living at number 31, Elm Road that Edwards honed his skills on the Priory Park playing fields which would eventually propel him to stardom as part of the Busby Babes of Manchester United.

He was born in 1936 and spent the early years of his life in Dudley before coming to the attention of the Manchester giants.

He went on to become a key player for United and England until his life was tragically cut short.

He died of his injuries following the Munich Air Disaster in 1958, aged just 21.

Former teammate and World Cup winner Sir Bobby Charlton unveiled a blue plaque in his honour at the park just last month to mark what would have been his 80th birthday.

It was the latest tribute to the Dudley hero, adding to the statue in the town centre and stained-glass window at St Francis' Church.

A major trunk road leading to the town was also named in his honour. Lisa Flavell, who owns the house, admitted she didn't realise quite how important one of its previous tenants was when she first moved in.

The 34-year-old said: "The last owners did mention it but not being a football fan, I didn't really know much about him.

"But it got me interested and made me want to find out more about him and his life.

"On anniversaries I have had a few people knock on the door asking if they can take a picture of the house. It just goes to show how important he was."

Miss Flavell has lived at the property for nine years and has been joined in that time by partner Paul Enoch and their one-year-old twins Charlie and Betsy. The couple have decided to move to find a new family home.

Wolves fan Mr Enoch was amazed to discover the house had previously been lived in by such a prestigious footballer.

"He knew all about Duncan Edwards.

He thought it was brilliant," Miss Flavell added.
