Raymond Edwards, aged 79, produced his own CD, including two tracks called The Fan's Dream and I'm Lonely, based on a poster he created for Wolves in 2003.

The poster was made to celebrate Wolves' then-promotion to the Premiership and to raise money for the Wolverhampton Coronary Aftercare Group.

It featured a special verse about the return to the top flight, as well as caricatures of the team surrounded by fans.

The verse on the poster inspired the track The Fan's Dream but recording the song posed challenges for Raymond.

"It's quite difficult to turn a poem into a song, as some of the words just couldn't be sung, so we had to change them as we went along," he said.

Lyrics include 'All gold and black the colours they wore with lasting pride, nothing ever worries them, the ball is on their side. Playing in that stadium, Molineux its name, saluting all our heroes, for football is their game. A shrine to their achievements, there's certainly quite a few, of legends from the past, the friends that we all knew'.

Mr Edwards, from Sedgley, hopes to release the CD for charity, with some of the proceeds going to the Lanesfield Royal British Legion Club. He created the song with the help of his friend and life-long Wolves fan, Cedric Westley, aged 81.

"I hope the song will be like a bit of a chant and will bring the team luck," Cedric said.

"I'm a season ticket holder and I've said I'll keep going until Wolves make it into the Premier League again.

"My friends say, 'Ced, you'll be going till you're 300 at this rate' but I won't give up."

The second song on the £3 CD, entitled I'm Lonely, is perhaps a more personal one for Mr Edwards, who has suffered with various health issues over the last few years. "I've only just got out of hospital and I was pretty much at death's door," he said.

"I got out and I thought, 'if I don't do this now, I never will'. I just want to say thank you to all the staff at New Cross Hospital that helped look after me."
