Midland Metro trams blocked by protesters in Birmingham

Midland Metro passengers faced delays after protesters blocked the path of trams in and out of Birmingham.

More than a dozen people had blocked the tram tracks around the Bull Street and Colmore Row areas of the city centre.

Trams in and out of the city centre heading towards Wolverhampton have been affected by delays.

Midland Metro tweeted about problems.

The protesters waved banners after pitching up on the route at around 2.30pm.

West Midlands Police spokeswoman Kate Baker said: "A small group had gathered and blocked the tram line.

"Officers attended to and spoke to the group who dispersed shortly after.

"No criminal offences were reported to police."
