Plans for a 300,000 industrial complex in Popes Lane which will expand the base of West Bromwich-based Steel & Alloy Processing are due to be submitted to Sandwell Council.

The scheme at the former Albright High School site will boost the region's manufacturing economy, according to business chiefs.

Council leader Steve Eling said: "It is heartening to see this significant level of investment coming into Oldbury at this time.

"The new jobs being created by Steel & Alloy are very welcome and is further demonstration of Sandwell being at the heart of the manufacturing economy of the West Midlands."

Trebor Developments has signed contracts with Steel & Alloy Processing to bring the scheme to fruition.

The school shut its doors in 2011 following four years of winding down.

The proposed development of the 11.6 acre site will 'significantly expand the manufacturing capacity of Steel & Alloy Processing' according to the firm's bosses.

Assuming plans for the site get the go-ahead, work will start on site in spring 2017 and be operational by 2018.

Bob Tattrie, managing partner for Trebor Developments, said: "Trebor Developments are delighted to have agreed terms with Steel & Alloy Processing Ltd.

It is excellent news for the West Midlands economy to see such a major industrial investment."
