These were the words of Danielle Garratt who organised a fundraising walk to raise money for her friend Nessa Perks who has been diagnosed with terminal bone cancer.

Miss Perks, who is 31, from Tipton, was told that she may not have long left to live in June.

Speaking to friends she said she had three wishes that she wanted to fulfil – getting married to her sweetheart Luke Barnes, seeing her children Harvey, aged seven, and Poppy, aged three, get Christened and taking the family to Disneyland.

Miss Perks said she was overwhelmed by the support she has received since her diagnosis.

"There have been so many charity events organised but this one was my favourite," she told the Express & Star.

"I didn't realise how many people were coming but it was absolutely brilliant.

"I was shocked – I couldn't believe it. And I even managed to join in with the walk at one point.

"It's so nice when you look around and realise how many people you've got supporting you."

Miss Perks and Mr Barnes's wedding has been booked in for December 23 at St John's Church in Tipton. She said she cannot wait for the big day to come around.

"We've just booked it in recently which is amazing," Miss Perks said. "I've always wanted a Christmas wedding so that's great."

After Christmas Miss Perks will have to undergo more aggressive treatment involving a bone marrow transplant which will cause her to lose her hair.

So she said she wanted to ensure her wedding day was booked in before this.

Miss Perks started her third period of chemotherapy yesterday.

"I'm doing okay but have still got two fractures in my back and I just ache a bit all over," she said.

She said she hopes she can get to Disneyland before she gets too ill so she can make the most of the trip.

Kind-hearted Danielle, aged 26, and her sister-in-law, Laura Tonk, set about organising the walk to raise as much money as possible.

More than £6,000 had already been gathered from community events with the walk on Saturdaybringing in more than £2,000.

Ms Garratt, also from Tipton, said: "For Nessa to be diagnosed with terminal cancer at only 31 is devastating.

"But the support we have received from the people of Tipton is amazing.

"For such a small area we have had so many people come forward and help us. We started the walk in Dudley town centre and went down past the zoo and Black Country Museum and headed into Tipton.

"The minute we were near home, so many people were beeping their horns and stopping in their cars to put money in our buckets.

"It was great. Even the weather didn't hold us back.

"A man who used to live in the area, Greg Hyde, who has prostate cancer even travelled down to show his support.""

Ms Garratt said she was delighted with how many people had got involved with the fundraiser.

She said: "To be honest I was shocked with how many people came – especially as when we first got there it was raining. When I arrived I really couldn't believe how many people had made an effort to come out.

"As soon as we got back into Tipton after the walk all the cars were out beeping us.

"I was really surprised by how many people turned out. She's a lovely lady.

"Because of Nessa's age it's been a real shock to the community, particularly as she's got two young children.

"Everyone wants her to achieve her wishes to get to Disneyland and everything.

"Now she's got her spending money it means when she gets there the kids can have whatever they want."

Ms Garratt said the walk had raised more than £2,000 .

More than 50 people took part in the walk, dressed in different costumes.

Miss Perks has undergone several rounds of chemotherapy and three operations since being diagnosed with the disease last summer.

Ms Garratt, who is an administrator with the NHS, continued: "Nessa just wants to make the most out of what time she has left and the money will go towards giving her kids everything they want in Disneyland."
