The family from Bushbury, Wolverhampton, won the £100,000 plus their very own commemorative Lottery Silver medals.

Christine Hudson, aged 57, and her daughters Natasha, 36, and Katy, 28, are sharing the cash.

The Lottery draw was followed by a series of additional prizes that were up for grabs to celebrate each of the medals won by Team GB in Rio.

The win is still taking time to sink in, Christine said: "I'm still speechless. This money will take the pressure off our everyday life and one of the first things I'll do is to replace my 2005 Astra."

Sports-mad Natasha, a senior customer advisor at Wolverhampton's Swimming and Fitness Centre, said: "I thoroughly enjoyed cheering on Team GB at the Rio Olympics. I can't believe I have won as a result of them winning in Rio and I even have my own Silver medal too!"

The three didn't believe they had a winning ticket in the draw on August 27 and spent most of the early hours of the following morning travelling around Wolverhampton to check if it was real.

Christine said: "It was about 2.30am on Sunday morning when Katy woke me up saying that we had won something on the Lottery. We went downstairs, made a cup of tea and started to check the internet and TV. Both confirmed the special code of TEAL 39248104 was a winner and we were £100,000 richer.

"But we still didn't believe it, so we decided to download the app from The National Lottery website and scan the ticket. We got the same answer!"

By this time Christine's older daughter Natasha had been woken up and Christine and Katy drove around to Natasha's house to show her the ticket. But the checking didn't stop there.

Christine, who works as a domestic assistant for OffiClean, based in Wombourne, said: "We even jumped in the car to find a retailer to check the ticket for us, but being as it was about 4.30am everywhere we went was closed. So we waited patiently before calling The National Lottery Hotline when it opened at 9am."

Katy bought the winning ticket from the Co-op on Bushbury Lane, and it was the first time the family had bought a ticket together. She said: "I wanted to have a family syndicate and I can't believe that the first time we had a go we won £100,000."

On top of the usual Lotto draw an extra 27 prizes of £1 million were available to match the number of Gold medals won in Rio, 23 further prizes of £100,000 to equal the Silver medals and 17 additional prizes of £50,000 to match those Bronze medals.
